Qwake Tech: Anti-Poaching Amplify

Summary: Working with various stakeholders in creating a device to try to detect illegal animal poaching activities, I created a video to illustrate Qwake’s vision of an AI-powered device that can alert rangers of poaching activities. Working alongside Qwake’s founder I helped concept the story. From there I took care of sourcing the videos to illustrate the storyline, and then I created the motion graphics and sound design.

Process: A not-to-be-named celebrity heard about our idea of creating an auditory device to try to detect illegal poaching and asked if we could present him with information about it the very next day. We wanted to impress him with a video. So I immediately started working with every next minute until sunrise focused on creating that video. We sent the celebrity the video the next morning, and he became even more excited about the idea . (He sent us a text saying the video was awesome!) We then spent the next few weeks building upon that initial video by storyboarding a storyline and then eventually piecing together the final video.

Design Language: We knew the majority of the video would be pieced from both stock footage and sourced videos about poaching. Finding the video footage to fit our storyline proved to be the hardest part of the project. The story starts with a poached animal and then rewinds to the start of the poaching event and what our proposed device would do in that situation. Motion graphics would then be used to demonstrate the meta features of the device from being camouflaged on tree trunks to sending information to the cloud and alerting rangers of a potential illegal activity. UI elements were heavily used to demonstrate the tech nature of the device.
